デジタル技術の進展に伴い、企業を取り巻く環境は急速に変化している。とりわけ新機能への対応は、もはや一部署の課題にとどまらず、経営戦略そのものを左右する要因となりつつある。東京に本社を置くある企業では、開発部が主導して全社的な改革に着手した。既存の業務プロセスを徹底的に洗い出し、形骸化していた承認手続きを廃止したところ、意思決定の速度が大幅に向上したという。もっとも、改革が常に順風満帆だったわけではない。現場からは「従来のやり方を変える必要はない」という反発の声も上がった。経営層は対話を重ね、小さな成功事例を積み上げることで、組織全体の意識を徐々に変えていったという。変革とは、技術の導入そのものではなく、人と組織の在り方を問い直す営みである。新機能を単なる流行語として消費するのではなく、自社の課題に即して捉え直すことこそが、持続的な競争力の源泉となるのではないだろうか。

少子高齢化に伴う労働力不足を背景に、外国人材の受け入れは日本社会にとって避けて通れない課題となっている。とりわけIT業界では、Pythonをはじめとする技術に精通した人材の獲得競争が、国境を越えて繰り広げられている。ある企業の開発部では、社員の三割を外国籍のエンジニアが占める。公用語を英語に切り替える選択肢もあったが、あえて「やさしい日本語」を共通語とする道を選んだ。曖昧な指示を避け、結論を先に述べるという原則を徹底したところ、日本人社員同士のコミュニケーションまで改善されたという。一方で、課題も残る。昇進の基準が不透明である、会議の発言機会が偏っている、といった指摘は依然として多い。制度を整えるだけでなく、評価の透明性を高め、多様な背景を持つ社員が能力を発揮できる環境を構築することが急務である。多様性は、単なる理念ではなく、イノベーションの源泉である。異なる視点が交わるところにこそ、新しい価値が生まれる。日本の職場がその真価を発揮できるかどうかは、これからの十年にかかっていると言えよう。

人工知能の社会実装が進むにつれ、新機能をめぐる倫理的な議論が活発化している。利便性の向上と引き換えに、私たちは何を差し出しているのか。この問いに正面から向き合うことなくして、技術の健全な発展はあり得ない。開発の現場では、レビューの段階から倫理的な配慮を組み込む「エシックス・バイ・デザイン」の考え方が広がりつつある。問題が起きてから対処するのではなく、設計思想そのものに価値判断を埋め込むという発想の転換である。もっとも、倫理を語ることが技術革新の足かせになるという批判も根強い。だが、社会の信頼を失った技術が普及した例は、歴史上ほとんど存在しない。信頼こそが、技術が社会に受け入れられるための前提条件なのである。技術者一人ひとりが、自らの仕事の社会的影響を想像する力を持つこと。それが、これからの時代に求められる専門性の核心ではないだろうか。コードの一行が、誰かの人生を左右し得る時代に、私たちは生きている。
